Cheap Book Tips!

By Andrea Montoya on March 1, 2013

Everyone in the general college population knows what it means to live on a Top Ramen and Spaghettios diet.  This is due to not only tuition costs, but also relies heavily on textbooks’ increased prices.

With that said, I have compiled a list for you fellow students out there to save a few bucks next quarter.

Used books/Rentals in the bookstore and on Uloop!

Try using our special section of Uloop to buy, sell and rent books. Uloop can be used as a great tool for trading cheap books with those who need benefit from saving money the most. The benefits are simply convenience and price.  Used books are always cheaper than brand new books (to rent used books for the quarter is even cheaper!)

Amazon, Amazon, Amazon!

As some of you are aware, the rest of you may not be.  Amazon is the online site that has saved me over $100 per textbook so far in my college career.  Yes, there is a small shipping fee added, but if you add it up totaled- it’s still cheaper than the textbook at an actual bookstore!

Public/School Libraries

If perhaps, you are required to take numerous English classes like myself, than the school or public library in your town will become your second home.  Most of the texts in your course (whether it be Shakespeare, or World Literature) will more likely be sitting on a shelf collecting dust just waiting to be checked out and read.  What better feeling is there knowing you found all of your textbooks for free under one roof?

Being an English major I have always tried to scout out ways to save money on required textbooks for school and these are definitely at the top of my list.  I hope all of these ideas have come in handy when next quarter rolls around the corner and a few bucks can be saved along the way!
